How to Search the Stevens Point Court Docket
The issuing court matters more than where the incident happened. The Stevens Point/Plover Joint Municipal Court handles city ordinance and municipal traffic cases. Nothing from that court appears online. Public Portage County Circuit Court cases, by contrast, are open through Wisconsin Circuit Court Access. Most people know it as WCCA or CCAP.
- Read the citation or hearing notice and identify the court in the upper-left area.
- For a joint municipal court matter, keep the citation number and call the municipal clerk.
- Use Point & Pay only to locate a payable citation or make an authorized payment.
- For a circuit case, search WCCA by name or case number and select Portage County.
- Confirm an appearance with the correct clerk before relying on a search result.
What if a circuit search comes up empty? The case may simply not have reached the county clerk yet. The Portage County Clerk of Circuit Court sends municipal non-criminal citations back to the municipal clerk, and questions about a new criminal filing may go to the District Attorney.
Stevens Point Records Are Not in Point & Pay
Point & Pay causes real confusion here. The city's payment page links to it. Yet the official municipal court page states plainly that court records are not available online. The payment tool can pull up an account when you enter a paired set of fields. It offers no case history, filing list, calendar archive, or document viewer.
| Route | Inputs | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Citation route | Last name and citation number | Locates a payment account |
| License route | Date of birth, license number, license state | Alternative payment lookup |
| Record route | Call or visit the clerk | Requests the municipal court record |
Watch how the court applies your money. Payments go to the oldest outstanding balance first, including eligible debt sent to Wisconsin Department of Revenue collection. That accounting rule is one more reason to confirm which balance a payment actually touches.
The Stevens Point Municipal Court
The court's official name is the Stevens Point/Plover Joint Municipal Court. It serves the City of Stevens Point and the Village of Plover under the city's Chapter 33 joint-court framework. Judge Erik J. McFarland presides, with Kari Jozwiak listed as clerk. Its docket covers municipal traffic and non-traffic ordinance cases. No jury trials are held there.
Stevens Point/Plover Joint Municipal Court
1515 Strongs Avenue, Stevens Point, WI 54481
715-342-4054 · Fax 715-342-4055
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The clerk is the direct route for a Stevens Point docket, a written plea, an appearance question, or anything Point & Pay cannot display. Ask the clerk about copy fees too. The court publishes no fee schedule or public calendar, so current procedure comes from the office itself.
Three Stevens Point Citation Routes
Every Stevens Point citation travels one of three roads. A city ordinance case stays in the joint municipal court unless someone appeals it. A state-law traffic or criminal case can land in Portage County Circuit Court and show up on WCCA. A brand-new criminal matter may still sit with the District Attorney. It waits to reach the public circuit case history.
Use the issuing court. The citation itself is the best routing document. A city payment page cannot confirm that every Stevens Point case belongs to municipal court.
Need the municipal record? Call 715-342-4054. For a public circuit case, search WCCA or call the Portage clerk at 715-346-1364. Criminal citations or bonds not yet filed go to the District Attorney at 715-346-1300.
Stevens Point Court Dates and Settings
In joint municipal court, the citation date is an initial appearance. It is not a trial date. There you enter a guilty, no-contest, or not-guilty plea. A guilty or no-contest matter may be resolved on the spot, while a not-guilty plea moves to a pretrial conference later that evening, and an unresolved case gets a later trial date.
| Date | The scheduled appearance shown on the citation or later court notice |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed initial appearance, pretrial, or trial time |
| Location | The joint court at 1515 Strongs Avenue unless the notice names circuit court |
| Court | Joint municipal court or Portage County Circuit Court |
| Setting | Initial appearance, pretrial conference, trial, or circuit hearing |
You can also plead not guilty in writing, by mail or fax, as long as the submission carries a current address and citation number. Check with the municipal clerk that it was accepted and learn your next setting.
When a Stevens Point Appearance Is Mandatory
Some citations demand an in-person appearance. Paying online never replaces that requirement when the citation marks it mandatory. Skip an initial appearance, pretrial, or trial, and the city's published procedure allows a guilty-by-default judgment.
Check before paying. Read the court and appearance instructions on the citation, then contact the joint court if any term is unclear.
Follow the court's appearance and plea instructions for the full sequence. One caution: a payment receipt proves a transaction, nothing more. It does not show that a required appearance was excused or that a plea was accepted.
Stevens Point Traffic Tickets
Non-parking police citations may route to the joint court or to Portage County Circuit Court. Check the upper-left portion of the citation to identify the proper court. Joint-court payments run through the city-authorized payment route. Circuit matters use the Wisconsin court system's case and payment channels. Parking citations work differently. Stevens Point accepts online card payments. Payment boxes sit at 1515 Strongs Avenue and 933 Michigan Avenue, and cash and checks go to the Police Records Bureau at 933 Michigan Avenue during posted weekday hours. To appeal, you must file online within seven days, and never after paying. If the appeal fails, the city says the amount is due within five days of notice. None of this parking machinery is a public Stevens Point court docket. It runs as an administrative citation process instead. For the wider difference between a citation case and other records, see the Portage County traffic ticket guide.
Stevens Point Appeals Move to Circuit Court
Lose at a municipal trial in Stevens Point? The case does not end there. A guilty finding can be appealed to Portage County Circuit Court. The city requires the appeal in writing within 20 days after judgment, with the appeal fee, forfeiture, and costs posted. Pay the right fees and a jury trial on appeal opens up. First OWI and PAC cases follow a special path. A not-guilty plea lets a defendant request a jury trial before Portage County Circuit Court. That takes a written request plus the required jury fee within 10 days of the initial appearance. Once the case moves up, WCCA becomes the public case-history route. The Portage County Clerk of Circuit Court holds the court file.
Where Stevens Point Cases End Up
Where a Stevens Point case ends up depends on the law, the issuing body, and any appeal. The joint court is a local court. It hears municipal violations. Wisconsin Circuit Court, the state's unified trial court, handles felony, misdemeanor, civil, family, probate, and other circuit matters.
Docket flow: Stevens Point/Plover Joint Municipal Court › Portage County Circuit Court on appeal › Wisconsin Court of Appeals when further review is authorized
State-law matters can start in circuit court. Search the county layer in WCCA by selecting Portage County. Opening the matching case number shows its branch, events, settings, status, and disposition. The circuit courthouse also has a second-floor public-access room. A separate same-day hearing kiosk operates there too.
Stevens Point and Plover Share One Docket Office
Stevens Point is Portage County's only city. The 2020 Census counted 25,666 residents, and a July 2024 estimate puts the figure at 26,465. The joint court is shared with the Village of Plover. Both municipalities belong to the joint structure. Forfeitures and fees on a citation go to the municipality that issued it.
That shared setup is why a Plover citation can land on a court page hosted by Stevens Point. Skip the broad web search. The issuing municipality and the court label will get you further.
Stevens Point City Hall Is in Transition
A new civic campus is on the way for Stevens Point. The official New City Hall Project page describes plans for 1039 Ellis Street with municipal court and council chamber space. For now, the clerk's contact address stays 1515 Strongs Avenue.

Construction can shift a hearing room or a clerk counter. Rely on the address printed on your latest court notice, and confirm with the municipal clerk before you travel. That project page changes no current docket setting in Stevens Point.
Public Access to Stevens Point Court Records
Municipal records stay offline. The joint court directs requests to Kari Jozwiak's office, by phone, in person, mail, or fax. Circuit case information costs nothing. WCCA, the courthouse Public Access room, and the Portage clerk all provide it. Filed documents and transcripts are another matter. Those generally require inspection or a copy request from the county where the circuit action was filed.
Public does not mean every item is online. Wisconsin law provides inspection and copying rights, while sealed, confidential, protected, and juvenile material may be withheld or limited.
Wis. Stat. § 19.35 sets the state inspection and copying framework. Wis. Stat. § 801.21 governs motions to seal or redact court records.
WCCA is a locator and case history, not a certified copy. Confirm any record with the municipal clerk or the Portage County Clerk of Circuit Court, depending on which court owns it.
